In 2002, the Canadian Electrical code required the use of Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) in all branch circuits that supply outlets in bedrooms for new residential construction. In addition to your bedrooms, consider using arc fault circuit interrupters for other living areas of the home to increase your protection and added peace of mind. Arc faults have the potential to occur throughout the home because there are so many ways for them to start. A few of the typical conditions where arc faults may start include: damaged wires, worn electrical insulation, loose electrical connections, overheated or stressed electrical cords.
