Married with four children, my wife Heather and I both come from farming and ranching families in the rural Brooks area. I continued my studies in Agricultural Mechanics at Olds College (1983-85). Following college, I worked as a mechanic, prior to entering the oil patch where I've been involved for over 33 years in various roles. I am currently Sales Manager for Great North Equipment.

I have been farming and ranching, run a 300 head cow/calf operation as well as working with our family farms; Harbinson/Giles Ranches. My wife and I remain very active in the community.

Having lived in the community basically all my life, I understand it and am willing to listen and hopefully make a difference that will help grow UFA.

I grew up on a family farm northwest of Calgary, where our family harvests an annual hay crop to feed our modest herd of cattle, horses and miniature donkey. We also maintain a flock of chickens to sell the eggs.

I spent six years as an active member of the Balzac 4-H Beef club, participating in public speaking competitions, attending 4-H camps and volunteering at Aggie Days. As a teenager I was very active in developing my horsemanship skills, by taking riding lessons in reining, cutting and team penning.

After high school, I attended Mount Royal University and received a Bachelor of Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership in 2009. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelors of Science. I am currently in my final stage of writing a Masters of Science thesis in Hydrology from McMaster University, and am planning to defend the thesis this summer.

I have held several jobs in the environmental field, working for oil and gas and the Government of Alberta. My most recent job was last summer, working for the Government of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry ministry in the Alberta Wildfire department.

My name is Ken Wagner and I have lived and farmed in the Keephills area all my life. My wife, Cathy, and I have been married for 32 years and we have two married children, both living in Edmonton. I am the third generation to farm the land that my grandfather homesteaded in 1905. After graduating from high school in Stony Plain, I joined my brother Albert on the farm as well as working full time off the farm for the next 14 years. We ran a mixed farm of cattle and grain, at one point running a herd of 250 cows. After BSE hit the Alberta cattle industry, we made the move to grain farm and sold off all the cows. In 1989 we became the first in the area to start to direct seed. Today we farm 5000 acres of peas, canola, wheat and barley. For the past 40 years and more we have bought all of our fuel from the UFA as well as a significant amount of our crop inputs. For the last four years, I have served as a delegate on the Alberta Barley Commission.
